The Hokienauts team leverages the Microsoft HoloLens 2 for the NASA Spacesuit User Interface Technologies for Students (SUITS) challenge. The challenge seeks augmented reality (AR) space suit solutions to support the NASA Artemis Mission. The goal of our new design is to develop a clean interface with very low cognitive and visual overhead. To accomplish this, consider a visual design that reduces the amount of space each telemetry data panel takes as well as displaying relevant information about the EVA System State. Our design provides solutions for tool identification using Object Recognition technology, audio note-taking, and navigation with spatial awareness. We also integrate two hardware additions: a visor-mounted liquid crystal light valve for dynamic brightness to enable AR visibility in bright environments, and a frame-mounted control unit which will enable user navigation and selection through the menu system.
