The Tell-Tale He[AR]t
Our team has created an augmented reality book version of Edgar Allan Poe’s “The Tell-Tale Heart.” The AR features embedded bring the book to life through recorded audio and animations. Simply scan each page to enter into the world of Poe. This book is a follow-up to an immersive theatrical performance, “Poe’s Shadows,” that was previously exhibited at the Moss Arts Center.
Our team’s performance of “Poe’s Shadows” was a 360-degree video installation that explored what happens when literary texts are lifted from the “page to the stage,” reimagined by new technology.
Following the exhibit, our team wanted to reach a broader audience, so we created an AR version. We used the original illustrations and audio recordings as a foundation—then worked with a graphic design student to create more elaborate animations, a sound design student to create a new sound-scape, and a group of creative technologies students (and the ARIES lab) to bring the whole piece to life in AR.
