General ItemEntomo3D
Virginia Tech University Libraries and Entomology Department are creating a digital library of 3D insect models from the Virginia Tech Insect Collection. This project explores new practices for curating biodiversity specimens for educational access. Our work uses photogrammetry, taking hundreds of images of an object, from every possible angle; then using specialized software to process those images into 3D models.

General ItemImmersive Analytics
Immersive analytics is an emerging field of data exploration and analysis in immersive environments. The main idea is to use visual analytics in a fully immersive 3D space. The availability of immersive extended reality systems has increased tremendously recently, but it is still not as widely used as conventional 2D displays. We describe an immersive analysis system for spatio-temporal data and compare its performance in an immersive environment and on a conventional 2D display.

General ItemVeterinary Anatomy in VR
The Veterinary Anatomy in VR project brings the three animal models, equine, canine, and bovine to virtual reality. This allows students to practice identification and spatial relationship tasks from their own computer or VR headset. The work is a collaboration between Veterinary Medicine researchers and the University Libraries.

General ItemVirtual Museums: Avatar-guided and Game-based Experiences for Learning and Engagement
Presence, engagement, and a real connection are difficult to establish through virtual exhibits. To explore these challenges, we partnered with the Liberation War Museum in Bangladesh and created a web-based 3D virtual museum where three galleries have three different presentation modalities - "self-guided," "avatar-guided," and "game-based." We explore their learnability, usability, and engagement.

General ItemVisual Sensory Convergence
The immersive experience is designed to engage a single participant in a virtual ecosphere engaging all five senses. Characters are physical interactive props, have VIVE tracking, and are puppeteered by a team of live performers. Participants touch things that respond, smell things, and communicate through interactive sound.
