The BUILD project has grown from an aspiration that human-centered smart environments won’t simply connect us, but will make us smarter, and perhaps more human. With this perspective, the project examines how smart buildings and other infrastructure can interact with humans to better understand and promote collaboration, creativity, and innovation. In this context, physical buildings and infrastructure on university campuses are viewed as potentially active collaborators in learning and discovery.

The mission of the project is to advance research on “the Smart University” where infrastructure-based technologies may help to shape the design and use of human-centered environments in higher education.
