Mass Timber Modification Through Technology

Now more than ever, architects need to be mindful of the impact they can have on the environment and our natural world. Even the simplest changes, such as the materiality of a building, can have carbon-reducing effects. This study features a new sustainable technology, Mass Timber, and shape optimization software. The primary goal is to generate a non-rectilinear formulation of avant-garde and unorthodox mass timber shapes to produce an experiential, new type of timber structure that can be modified for application at virtually any scale. Using an adaptive mix of fabrication technologies, a free form, self-supporting, human scale pavilion will be generated and put on display showcasing these new types of technologies.
