Dr. Eiman Elgewely is an Assistant Professor of Interior Design in the School of Design at Virginia Tech and a Faculty Affiliate of the Center for Human-Computer Interaction (CHCI). She is also a Senior Fellow at the Institute for Creativity, Arts, and Technology (ICAT) and the founding director of the Visualization and Virtual Reality Lab (VVR) within the Interior Design program, where she leads pioneering digital heritage research projects that integrate emerging technologies with design practice. She earned her MFA and Ph.D. in Interior Architecture—specializing in Virtual and Cyberspace Design—from Alexandria University. In 2013, Dr. Elgewely joined the Experiential Technologies Center at the School of Art and Architecture, University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), as a Fulbright Postdoctoral Fellow, where she expanded her research into digital cultural heritage and museum studies. Since 2007, she has worked on several applied projects in Egypt—employing advanced 3D scanning, documentation, and virtual reconstruction techniques—to preserve and reinterpret historical sites. Her creative scholarship now incorporates artificial intelligence and extended reality to develop digital solutions for cultural heritage, museum design, and education. Prior to her appointment at Virginia Tech, Dr. Elgewely served as an Assistant Professor of Interior Architecture at Alexandria University’s Faculty of Fine Arts and later as the Coordinator of the Interior Design Program at the Arts & Design Department, Applied Science University of Bahrain (ASU), all while maintaining her own design practice in Egypt.
