The pandemic highlighted strong deficiencies in both patient adherence and compliance to treatments, along with emphasizing a general mistrust in medicine. These deficiencies have always existed, due primarily to a lack of robust medical communication between physician and patient, pharmaceutical companies and the public, and a lack of overall transparency. Consequently, many POC communities are wary of the medical industry and often do not sign up for medical studies – which leads to drug development which is blind to side effects in POC populations, thus making the cycle worse. VAROS seeks to mend and strengthen medical communication, through the use of intuitive 3D organ modeling and augmented reality. We hypothesize that using these models is vastly superior to an industry standard of verbal communication or “1-pagers” presented by pharmaceutical companies. Our first project is the effective communication and modelling of a colonoscopy procedure, in which we hope to improve upon the industry standard of verbal communication. We hypothesize that VAROS will be successful in providing patients with an accurate understanding of their procedure, and we hope to extend this project to all facets of medicine.
