Drosera Obscura: A Multio-Sensory XR Installation and Performance

The Drosera Obscura project will feature both current working models and earlier prototypes to showcase the team’s iterative process. We’ll demonstrate how the animatronic forms function and offer interactive moments for the audience. Additionally, a monitor will display a preview of how the VR component will work in future iterations.

Drosera Obscura merges XR technology with sensory elements — VR, animatronics, sound, scent, and touch — to create an immersive, interactive experience. An interdisciplinary team from ICAT at Virginia Tech and CIRMMT at McGill collaborates to push technological and creative boundaries. Prototypes evolve through iterative testing in advanced facilities, leading to live performances that explore new ways of blending sound, visuals, and physical interaction to engage audiences.
