A "Museum in Exile" Reconstructing the Mariupol Theater in Occupied Ukraine

With Mariupol's future currently unknown, this project will be proposed as a “Museum in Exile.” The “Museum in Exile” will consist of an interactive 3D model that can be explored in first person or virtual reality. This would allow visitors to explore the building without requiring actual construction.

The project analyzed the Mariupol Theatre using Google Earth Pro, CadMapper, and reports from Skeiron Group, Amnesty International, and the Center for Spatial Technologies. Skeiron provided 3D models, drawings, and plans, ensuring accurate reconstruction. Damage was assessed using a point cloud model, tracing ruins onto SketchUp. Ukrainian architectural history was researched, guided by Ievgeniia Gubkina’s work on the Ukrainian Architectural Modern movement and architecture’s role in resisting imperialism.
