VTDITC: Hip Hop Studies at Virginia Tech is an award-winning series of experiential learning-focused, culturally responsive community engagement programs. It is deeply rooted in Hip Hop culture and is cosponsored by numerous organizations both on campus and beyond; the heart of the program is undoubtedly the Virginia Tech University Libraries. We have hosted more than 600 programs - both on campus and in the larger community - over the past 6 academic years. Notably, our Community Engagement Fellows, a team of undergraduate and graduate students, play an integral role in iteratively creating and remixing VTDITC. Our guiding mission is to remove barriers to entry, to recognize art as scholarship, to learn by doing, and, importantly, to create an expressive and collaborative environment which allows for creative freedom.
