Experience Black Love: Illuminated

February 10-12, dark until 10pm (Weather permitting)

In partnership with the Perspective Gallery, Africana Studies and Women’s and Gender Studies programs, the Institute for Creativity, Arts, and Technology (ICAT) and Virginia Tech Athletics, Experience Black Love: Illuminated is a community-created, outdoor art exhibition at Cassell Coliseum showcasing projected artworks that elevate and celebrate Black voices, culture, and history—and highlight positive, reflective, and affirming perceptions of Black love. As an extension of the Experience Black Love exhibition at Perspective Gallery in Squires Student Center, and in parallel with Virginia Tech Athletics’ Black History Month programming, this event seeks to build on the concept of experiencing black love in our communities, families, and schools.

Anchoring the exhibition are original artworks by Tykeisha Swan Patrick, an emerging Black artist whose work in her words “represents collective memory and new experiences.” Her artwork sets the tone for the showcase which also includes work from Virginia Tech students, faculty, staff and community members.

The show will run February 10-12, from dark until 10pm (weather permitting) on the Washington Street facade of Cassell Coliseum.

Made possible with the support of the Institute for Critical Technology and Applied Science.
