Virtual IAWA

The International Archive of Women in Architecture (IAWA) was founded in 1985 to counteract  and remediate the absence of published material attesting the contributions women in  architecture have made to the discipline and the built environment throughout history. Seeking to  advance gender issues, the project proposes to create a virtual tool to visualize at very large scale  the material stored in the collections of the IAWA. Exhibiting during the 2025 Venice  Architectural Biennale seems a tremendous opportunity to give global visibility to the IAWA  archive, to ICAT, and to Virginia Tech; in addition to bolstering women’s much deserved  presence in recorded history, and continue to strive toward historical equity and balance.
