ICAT Playdate — The Science Museum of Western Virginia’s Eye Planetarium

March 20, 2026

The Science Museum of Western Virginia’s Eye Planetarium reopened in February 2024 following a ten-year development and renovation project. The redefined planetarium is a venue unlike any other on the east coast, where innovative advances in technology intersect with ultramodern visual arts. The Eye offers something for everyone with daily public shows, special events, premiere events, and private rentals. With a dual projection system capable of rendering vivid imagery and an immersive full dome screen, the space is designed to transform any given moment into an experience.

The Eye Creative Studio is operated by a two-person team, who create original works for Eye programming and events, including in-house produced planetarium star shows, educational shows, and immersive experiences. The Eye creative team frequently collaborates with community partners and organizations to create visual materials to support fundraisers, events, keynote speeches, live performances, and a wide variety of arts and cultural events. The team believes in an interdisciplinary, multimodal approach, fusing art, science, and technology to explore the universe and ourselves.
