The University as a Design Consultancy: This Isn’t Your Parents’ Land Grant University

Speaker: Tom Martin, Associate Director of ICAT

The Catalyst program is a collaboration between the Office of the Vice President for Research and Innovation, the Apex Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, and the Institute for Creativity, Arts, and Technology,  to create  an experiential program designed to promote trans-disciplinary collaboration, develop innovative practices and foster entrepreneurial endeavors at Virginia Tech. The program is meant to complement the university’s existing external research efforts by increasing tech transfer of existing research and providing a path for collaborating with external partners on early stage ideation and conceptual development. Aimed at fostering a more cohesive community, the program builds interdisciplinary teams of faculty, students and professionals to work collaboratively on open-ended real-world projects with external partners and to improve the transfer of discoveries from the university into society. Come join ICAT Associate Director Tom Martin for an overview of the Catalyst program, its goals, and current plans.
