Sound of Fractions

The Sound of Fractions is a micro-world and associated curriculum to teach key ideas about fractions to 6th graders (10-11 year olds) in a low-performing school who have not managed the basics of fractions, despite years of standard instruction. It starts with the way percussion divides time up into parts, and uses embodied auditory techniques such as tapping on the desk, and tapping into the computer, before employing novel and traditional visual representations.
