Candidates will be well-positioned to participate in Virginia Tech’s innovative Destination Areas vision, contributing to destination areas and strategic growth areas such as Creative Technologies & Experiences, Intelligent Infrastructure for Human-Centered Communities, and Data Analytics & Decision Sciences. Each of these areas is receiving significant resources and support from the university over the next several years.

Department of Computer Science

CS is searching for multiple tenured and tenure-track faculty members to join our vibrant, collaborative, and rapidly growing department. Although our posting encourages applicants from all areas of computer science, we are especially encouraging applicants working in two areas: HCI and game design/development.

HCI-focused applicants may complement our faculty’s existing strengths, including virtual/augmented reality, visualization, social informatics, tangible interfaces, digital libraries, and creativity support, or bring new expertise in HCI.

Gaming-focused applicants working in any technical area of digital game design/development are also encouraged, and this position is one of several gaming-related faculty searches happening this year as part of the new Creative Technologies + Experiences strategic growth area. Department of Science and Technology in Society

STS is searching for a Tenure Track Assistant Professor or Associate Professor in the critical study of Information, Design, and Innovation. Research specialties may include, for example, ethnography of digital cultures, social informatics, the politics of innovation, or participatory design. Duties include the equivalent of four courses per year in the department’s undergraduate programs, graduate degree program, and Ph.D. and M.S. advising across our campuses in Blacksburg and the National Capital Region; and service responsibilities. The successful candidate also will participate in the University’s Strategic Growth Area in Innovation and Entrepreneurship, which integrates research, experiential programs, and teaching to provide a critical understanding and framework for innovation and entrepreneurship across the university.
