Psychopathy and Lack of Affective Empathy: Cardiac Correlates in College Students

Previous research provides a strong argument for the hypothesis that cardiac measures are related to empathy, with empathic sadness related to a heart rate (HR) decrease and empathic happiness related to a HR increase, even compared to other physiological variables.

Reusable Form for Producing Custom-Fit Grips

The goal of this project was to develop a reusable form that can capture the interior shape of a person’s grip for the purpose of manufacturing custom-fit grips for products such as motorcycles, professional cutlery, golf clubs, and more.

Salt Marsh Suite

Organized in five movements, Salt Marsh Suite is an original video/sound installation and performance. Based on field observation, 3D laser scanning, imagery, and sound recordings collected in a North Carolina coastal estuary, the piece connects art and science, weaving the lines between the lives of the marsh animals and plants and the strong environmental (and human) forces that shape their existences.

Studio STEM 2.0: Alternative Informal Learning Environments

When the after-school curriculum encompasses engineering design, the challenge is greater due to the difficulty in assessing intangibles such as design and deep conceptual knowledge. Traditional paper and pencil assessments are difficult to administer amidst the controlled chaos of engineering design and counteractive to the essence of informal learning spaces.

Studio STEM/ICAT Summer Camp

Middle school students from southwest Virginia participated in a four day camp to save the seabirds by designing and building a solar car made of Legos that would pull seabird eggs over sand dunes in summer 2013.
