Between the Pyramid and the Labyrinth

The installation, Between the Pyramid and the Labyrinth, is a project developed with design students from the course Textile Space. The project provided a responsive environment and a framework for ICAT’s Tech-or-Treat exhibit.

Bio-Inspired Visualization

In this project, we focus on an online help forum for Java programming language, and identify the behavior patterns and difference between the new comers (help seekers) and the forum experts (help providers). Our bio-inspired approach allows us to visualize and animate online activities by mapping them to a set of natural behaviors, such as following and flocking.

Blacksburg 16 Squares

Since Blacksburg was chartered by the Virginia Legislature in 1798, it has had over two centuries of development. This provides a unique opportunity to capture the dynamics of change and place across time by employing such technologies as virtual and augmented reality.

Building Home Project

Participatory theatre and music project that will help gather qualitative data on community members’ thoughts and feelings about life in the region, and integrate these into the New River Valley Planning District Commission’s planning process.

Caine's Arcade - Global Cardboard Challenge

At the annual ICAT Global Cardboard Challenge event parents and children collaborate to brainstorm, design, build, cut, paint, prototype, test, and play cardboard arcade games – going through the entire design process in one half day.

Canine 3D Visualization Tools

The planned project with these collaborators is to employ safe, noninvasive motion capture and 3D visualization tools to study canine puppy socialization behaviors in a newly developed portable motion capture unit.

Cardboard Challenge 2013

Kids age 6 to 12 were invited to bring an adult and build a cardboard arcade game at ICAT’s second annual Caine’s Arcade Global Cardboard Challenge.

During the fall 2012 semester students in two of Dr. David Cline's (History Dept.) Oral History classes worked in conjunction with the Christiansburg Institute, Inc. and the Christiansburg Institute Alumni Association to record oral history interviews with alumni and other individuals associated with Christiansburg Institute.
